Summary
Audio and video you transcribe on speechtotext.tools are processed entirely inside your browser and are never transmitted to our servers. We have no servers that could receive them. The site uses Google Analytics to understand how it is used and Google AdSense to show advertisements; both are operated by Google and may set cookies. Your transcript and a few settings are stored locally in your browser.
Recordings, files and transcripts
The tool works client-side. When you choose a file or record from the microphone, the audio is read by your browser and transcribed on your device, and the text or subtitle files are offered for download, all without a network request carrying your content. Microphone recordings are kept in memory only and are discarded when you close the tab. You can verify this in your browser's developer tools: the network panel shows no upload while a file is transcribed.
Local storage in your browser
To make the tool convenient, the site stores data in your browser: the current transcript (so it survives a reload), the language and quality you chose, your theme preference, and, after the first use, the speech engine files in the browser cache so they don't have to be downloaded again. The audio itself is not stored. This data stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can delete it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
Usage counts
Our own statistics count page views and two anonymous events per day: that a file was added or a recording started, and that a transcript was downloaded or copied. They record no audio, no text, no file names and no identifiers beyond a daily pseudonymous visitor hash that cannot be linked across days; IP addresses are not stored.
Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
We use Google Analytics 4 to measure page views, which tools are used, approximate country and device type, and how visitors arrive. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga) and collects the page URL, referrer, browser and device information and a pseudonymous client identifier. IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4. The data is processed by Google LLC under Google's privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) or by blocking cookies for this site.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
This site displays advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites and to measure ad performance. This may include personalised advertising based on your interests. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google's Ads Settings (google.com/settings/ads) and, for many other ad networks, at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits; a list of Google's advertising partners and their policies is published by Google.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown a consent dialog (Google's certified consent management platform) before any advertising cookies are set, and can change or withdraw consent at any time from the link in the page footer. Where consent is declined, only non-personalised ads, which rely on context rather than tracking, are shown.
Hosting and server logs
The site is served as static files by Cloudflare's content delivery network. Cloudflare processes connection metadata (IP address, user agent, requested URL) to deliver the site and to protect it from abuse, and provides us with aggregate, non-identifying traffic statistics. We do not operate our own servers and do not receive individual request logs.
Children
The site is a general-audience utility and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country). We collect no personal information through the tools themselves; analytics and advertising are governed by Google's policies, which include protections for children's data.
Your rights and choices
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete; requests concerning data processed by Google Analytics or Google AdSense should be directed to Google, and the opt-out links above take effect immediately. If you are in the EEA, UK, California or another jurisdiction with data-protection rights, those rights apply to the third parties named here. You can block or delete cookies in your browser at any time; the tools will keep working.
Changes and contact
This policy may be updated when the site's analytics or advertising setup changes; the effective date at the top will be revised and material changes will be noted here. Questions about this policy can be sent to [email protected].
